Speech synthesis is a technique where oral communication is duplicated thru a synthesised machine.
A PC that converts text to speech is one sort of speech synthesizer. The earliest kinds of speech synthesis were implemented thru machines engineered to function like the human vocal tract. The talking machine made by Wolfgang von Kempelen in the 1700′s is an example. With this machine speech was produced through a kitchen cry, a bagpipe reed and a clarinet bell. The kitchen cry was built to act like a lung, while the glottis ( the area of the vocal cords ) was represented thru the bagpipe reed. The clarinet bell served as the mouth. [Read more...]
